New figures show that Labour’s car scrappage scheme is proving popular across the region.

The car scrappage scheme offers consumers £2,000 towards a brand new car or van, when they trade in a 10-year-old vehicle.  The £2,000 discount is made up of £1,000 from the Government and £1,000 from manufacturers and is expected to support up to 300,000 new car and van sales across the UK. 38 manufacturers have signed up to take part in the voluntary scheme.

So far 15,917 have benefited from the scrappage scheme across Sussex and Surrey.

“Motorists have been able to drive off with a £2,000 discount on a new car, under the Government’s scheme to scrap their old banger for a new model.

“Labour is committed to helping families and businesses through the recession and this scheme has given a welcome boost to motorists. Manufacturers have made nearly 16,000 claims for completed transactions in our Sussex and Surrey. These new car and van sales are supporting local car dealers across the region.”
